Guy, Birdie and their three children moved to Stagshaw in 2020. Birdie is an interior designer and Stagshaw has provided a wonderful canvas to allow her to create a really unique space in the West Wing, which is available for short term rentals.
There has been a house at Stagshaw since the early 15th Century, but the house you see today dates from Victorian times. Guy’s ancestors, the Strakers, lived at Stagshaw from the 1860’s and undertook substantial alterations to the property in the late 19th century and between the two wars. During the Second World War, Stagshaw was converted into a maternity hospital – many war babies and their off-spring continue to visit to this day during our Garden Open Days.
Stagshaw is a special and rather unusual place. Easily accessible, close to the A68 and A69 and close to the historic towns of Corbridge and Hexham, yet offering a tranquil respite from the modern world. The house has been carefully maintained and is beautifully decorated, blending the traditional with luxury furnishings and the setting is stunning with a formal terraced garden, rolling on to parkland and views across the Tyne Valley.
